History

The Mashpee Community Concert Committee, Inc. were the producers of “Mashpee Pops”. Mashpee Pops was ‘born’ in 1987 sponsored and presented by Mashpee Commons. In 1992, the Mashpee Arts Council, Inc. and the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce paired together to present the concert. The present day Mashpee Community Concert Committee, Inc. (MCCC) emerged from this group.

In 1993, local businessman Earle M. Marsters, Sr., made a bequest to MCCC and Mashpee Pops to ensure the continuation of this event for the benefit of the community. The ultimate goal is to create a permanent home. The ultimate goal is to create a permenanet endowment to underwrite the cost of community programs like the Pops.

In 1997, the first $10,000 scholarship was awarded to a graduating Mashpee High School Senior planning to study the fine, applied, creative or performing arts, or prepare for a career related to community, civic, or public service.

In 1998, the scholarship fund received a generous donation from the Yanoff family in memory of Donna Lynn Yanoff. The scholarship was renamed the ‘Donna Lynn Yanoff Memorial Scholarship’.

In 2017,  The Mashpee Pops Merit Scholarship(s) was established, typically $1,000 to $$2,000 – one time Scholarship.

Then in 2021, the $10,000 James Vaccaro Memorial Scholarship was established. It is distributed over 4 years. The $4,000 DLYM Scholarship is distributed over over 4 years.

The scholarships are presented to the recipient(s) on the night of the Mashpee High School Award Ceremony.

Mashpee Night at the Pops… Time to Say Good-Bye

For 20 years Mashpee Commons was the gracious host to Mashpee Night at the Pops. Our 2011 event was the last time this venue was available, and so we bid a fond farewell to all our friends at Mashpee Commons and thank all concerned for their 20 years of hospitality.

Although the Pops has explored a number of alternative sites, we have been unable to secure another venue suitable for our traditional Mashpee Night at the Pops production. Thus, although we wish it could be otherwise, with the 2011 concert, the curtain came down on this event as we know it. It was a great 20 year run and a labor of love for many members of the Pops Committee, past and present. The dream of the Pops organizers was realized, over and over again. For this and for the joy the Pops has brought to thousands of our neighbors and visitors, we are very proud. The Donna Lynn Yanoff Memorial Scholarship is fully endowed and will continue to be awarded for generations to come and we will continue to underwrite and present the Annual Missoula Children’s Theatre production during the winter. The Pops Committee has assumed the task of producing the annual holiday lighting of the Mashpee Rotary for which there has been much community acclaim. Mashpee Pops will stay active, sponsoring and producing a variety of other events celebrating and showcasing the arts in Mashpee and promoting a strong sense of community spirit. What else this will include, is still a work in progress….stay tuned!
